Why typical morning routines are designed for men
And what we can do about it!
I think we are all familiar with the following clip - a typical ‘bro with a podcast’ guy talking about his morning routine… getting up at 4am, heading to the gym for an intense 2 hour workout, followed by an hour of sauna and cold plunging, a cold shower, before he heads into his 1 hour meditation… this routine he swears is the reason he is ‘an alpha male’ in his career in trading or whatever… (ok maybe I took some poetic license). His disgust at the rest of us mere plebes who are in bed until 6:30am or 7am is palpable… but what I want to know is - where is this guy’s girlfriend or wife? Who is looking after his children?
If you can make these intense routines work for you - then more power to you! However I believe, most of the morning routines that are touted on social media are just not practical for women, and those of us with real lives and real life mornings that include kids, pets, a partner… or don’t live beside the gym, or have an in-house sauna (unfortunately)! And as unrealistic as the routine above might be for a lot of guys - for women, who often take on the majority of childcare responsibility as well as looking after the house before heading to work, it is impossible.
So is it worth trying to develop a morning ritual at all?
Yes - I really believe it is. Morning rituals do set you up for the day - and are a great time to focus on your own personal development before the day takes over. How many times have you promised you will go to the gym after work, meditate in the evenings, go for a walk at lunch - only to find your whole day eaten up by others needs, and then feel too wrecked in the evening to do anything more than fall into the couch in a heap. Yup - been there.
Ringfencing a time where no one else is typically up where you will have no demands to meet is really to key to making sure this is YOUR time.
My mission is to create something that is flexible and powerful… yes you might have to get up a little bit earlier. You are in control of your schedule. If today you can only do 10 mins, but yesterday you had 30 mins - either and both are great. There are varying options to accommodate for your available time, a variety of exercise routines based on your menstrual cycle; journalling prompts that you can set your own time limits for yourself. Write for as long or as little as you want… If you are interested in learning more, drop your email below in the comments!
Morning rituals given you an edge - so why are we letting the ‘podcast bro’s’ get ahead? We can make our time work harder and smarter for us! You only need to be 1% better than yesterday to make huge strides ahead in your life.
