4 ways to banish ‘The Chair.’

So how many of us all have the bedroom chair - or in my case it was a storage box. A pretty velvet storage box with cushions on top… cushions that rarely saw the light of day as there was usually some clothes thrown over the top. It is from this pile that I used to dress myself from each morning… are you feeling seen?

I now have a bedroom where my storage box is easily accessible with only cushions on top… my clothes live in the wardrobe or the drawers where they should be and I have a much wider choice to choose from when I get dressed in the morning.

Here are the steps to getting there:

  1. I am sure you are sick of me saying this but a wardrobe declutter is essential. If you are living off the chair - chances are it is because you cannot face your wardrobe so it is easier to have the old faithfuls - leggings or joggers and a t-shirt/ jumper and pick them up each morning. If you have no idea where to start with the wardrobe declutter - pick up my free guide here.

  2. Once you have decluttered the wardrobe - you should now have a wardrobe full of clothes you love and make you feel good. The next step is to stop saving clothes for specific occasions! If you have skirts or dresses that you love and make you feel hot, don’t save them. Put them on… make it a sexy Monday or a fairy Friday… wear the clothes you love! How good they make you feel will radiate through the rest of your day… <3

  3. If you are a remote worker it can be hard to get out of the funk of rolling out of bed and rocking up in your pjs to your desk each morning… For you I would recommend investing in some beautiful loungewear. I have some satin pyjamas that I wear to work, but maybe for you it is some lovely elasticated waist trousers. The idea is to still be comfy, but to feel more chic and sophisticated.

If you are having to go to the office here is a post on my recommendations for the office.

  4. The last step takes some discipline, but it is very simple! It is ok to leave some of yesterday’s clothes on the chair if you are going to wear them the following day but if not resist the temptation to throw stuff on the chair. Hang them up, or pop them into the laundry basket! Not only is this going to help your clothes endure for longer, you will have less laundry to do! Who amongst us hasn’t gone through the pile of clothes on the chair unable to determine what has been worn or what needs to be washed, only to throw the lot into the laundry basket…

A final tip is not to leave your clean washing on the chair either gathering wrinkles and dust. It will only enable you to live from the chair. If put your washing away each time it is not such a big job, and clothes feel fresh and lovely to put on when you take them out of the wardrobe. Promise!
