5 questions to ask yourself before hitting ‘buy’
Why do I have this in my basket? What is the intention behind this purchase?
Are you buying this because you actually need this top or skirt? Or are you buying this because you have had a rough day at work, or you are feeling pissed at your partner and want to make yourself feel better (don’t worry we all do it)! Check in with yourself. If you take 10 deep breaths (proper deeeeeep breaths with your eyes closed if you can) - and check do you still need it?
Do I have something like this already in my wardrobe?
Be Honest!! Do you already have 5 other pairs of very similar black trousers in your wardrobe already?! Are you buying these because they feel familiar, or because there is an actual gap in your wardrobe!
A key part of this is you must know what is actually in your wardrobe - if you don’t know what you have, how can you know what you need! Check out my wardrobe declutter guide here for more tips!
Will this go with at least 50% of what is already in my wardrobe?
A good way to determine if this is a good purchase is to consider the rest of the wardrobe and whether or not this new item will go. This can be a great way to avoid purchases like a purple fringe skirt that are super impulsive, and remain unworn because you don’t have anything to wear it with! (Although now I am thinking a purple fringe skirt could be super cool with like a red or green tank… I digress :D)
Do you love it?
If you have made it this far - well done! But time to ask yourself if you actually love it, or is it an ‘it’ll do’ purchase? The key to a great wardrobe is that it is full of clothes that you actually love - from basics to the more personal items. If this is an ‘only ok’ item then I want you to know you deserve better! You deserve to only wear clothes that are amazing, and make you feel gorgeous!
Take 24 hours!
This can be tricky when you are actually in a store, especially if you don’t get to the shops all the time but if you can try to take 24 hours. Leave it in the virtual basket and sleep on it. The next day if you are confident that this is something you need, that fits in with your existing wardrobe without being something you already have… then go ahead and hit that ‘check out now’ button!
