5 key items - What I’ve been wearing for work in lockdown

I know I have not been writing so much but I decided to write some posts today… this is one of the lighter ones :) but it’s good to also have some light among the darkness that seems to be everywhere at the moment.

So for me, I am one of the lucky few where I have been able to work from home for all of the initial lockdown (could only go 2km from home unless for groceries) to the second phase (all of 5km) to now - where we can travel all over Ireland, no real limitations but need to wear facemasks basically everywhere.

I am realising though that not being in the office has made half my wardrobe redundant. And as it stands, I don’t believe I will be returning to the office in a similiar way to how it was before - every day! I do however, have to get dressed everyday as I have lots of team meetings which are all video calls, and so I have to have my hair brushed, face washed, and be dressed every morning - sometimes for calls at 6:30am.

So if I am not wearing my normal work clothes, what have I been wearing? Here is a list of the most worn items in my wardrobe since March; I hope it gives you some inspiration if you are stuck for new ideas:

  1. For sure the item I have worn most is a pair of grey shorts - they are like tracksuit shorts and OMG they are so comfortable! Brand is iets frans, I got them at Urban Outfitters… The great thing is because this is the bottom layer, I can be smarter on top while being cool (when it’s warm) and super comfy on the bottom! Definitely the best money spent during the lockdown.

  2. Then for the days where I want to feel more ‘dressed up’ or smarter I have a floral summer dress! It is olive green with little yellow flowers bought last year from a local boutique - Whitefawn Boutique (www.whitefawnboutique.com) - which has a super sale on at the moment. I love this dress as it comfy and looks smart on calls, and is great if I need to go to the shop straight after work. I wore it all last summer and I still love it as much this summer!

  3. Kimonos! I have bought 2 kimonos since March - both have a bohemian feel. Maybe psychologically it makes me feel like I was somewhere cool on holidays like Marrakesh… I don’t know but they both help me dress up a casual outfit to make it feel less ‘casual’ for work. And are really helpful when the weather is so changeable.

I wear them over dressy dresses as well to make them feel less dressy; like I have a sparkly rose gold dress with a lace neck, and with the more casual of the kimonos, really makes it more of a day outfit!

  4. Co-ord wool tracksuits! I have a beige tracksuit from Pretty Little Thing that I bought when I was travelling to New York last year. I wanted to look stylish, but be comfortable on the plane. It is not my favourite feel, but it does look good. It has a boatneck jumper with matching joggers that have tapered cuffs at the end. Easy way to look sophisticated on calls with some gold jewelry and basically requires no thought or effort to put on in the morning.

  5. Coloured crop tops - while I have been wearing out my white tshirts (always look sophisticated and go with everything), I also have been wearing a number of cute crop tops. No one can see my midriff on calls (and to be clear, I would never wear a crop top to the office) but they are really comfortable and look cute and smart. The fact that no one realises its not a full length top is almost an added bonus! I have 3 favourite that I wear regularly - 2 from Urban Outfitters (a white ribbed cropped vest that I love, and a long sleeve cropped cardigan in teal) and a really cute patterned one from Whitefawn Boutique. This one ties in a giant bow at the back, with a square neck. Smart at the front but sexy at the back!

Those are basically my most worn items - what is funny for me is that alot of these are items I probably would never have bought if it wasn’t for lockdown - especially the crop tops. I definitely don’t have that slim, toned stomach (yet) but I love that I can wear them at home without judgement and it is helping me love my body more :)

Let me know what you think, and what you have been wearing during this crazy time.
